Yesterday I finished watching a show that I actually started at the beginning of summer this year.

“The Shield”(Torrent)

This is one of the best shows that I’ve watched in a while. Almost everything about it is just outsanding. The acting is top notch, you would have to go to a premium cable show like the sopranos to find better, the writing is spectacular, everything from all the seasons is weaved together seamlessly for almost the entire duration of the show. This is not to say that the show doesn’t have it’s flaws. For example some of the things that come up in the show either never get resolved in the storyline or are given a quick resolution and never spoken of again. A particularly bad example of this is the way that as the series progresses the audience begins to see less and less of the personal lives of the other characters besides the main 2 or 3. Contrasting this with season 1 where almost every characters personal life was explored in almost every episode and you fell a bit cheated. Also the ultimate resolutions of some season and series ending storylines just feel very rushed and underwhelming. But I have to say that the quality of the rest of the show more than makes up for these flaws and I don’t think I’ll ever regret that I watched it.

About a week ago I finished reading the companion novel to desperation.

“The Regulators”(Torrent)

I have to say that this ranks at just about the same place on the scale as desperation. I would say that it’s a little bit better than desperaton because of the way that the story is weaved together with that of desperations and it was cool to read the second book and understand all the references. Also I liked the way the story stayed more down to earth than desperation got at some point. But the overall story and better crafted dialouge definately make desperation the better of the two. Again this is not the worst stephen king story in the world but it is far from the best. The story, while interesting, just seems to get a little boring after a while and when the book went into the journal style that king made so popular in Carrie, it almost lost me, I don’t know if it worked well in Carrie as I have not read it myself, but it definately missed the mark here. The payoffs from desperation seem to be the best part of this book, and I find that sad since I really did want to like it.

I just got done watching the remainder of the fifth season of that has never let me down before.

“Entourage Season 5 (Finale)”(Torrent)

This show just continues to blow me away. It is slighty surreal, it is slightly silly, it is slightly melodramatic, but it’s all good. Apart from some of the quirky elements of the story, it is a very emotional, real show. I think what really sets this show apart from some simlar ones is that it makes you identify with characters that for most of us it would be a very big stretch to even consider identifying with. The character of Ari is probably the most notable. With his quippy, tight, self serving dialouge, he is the biggest asshole on the plant, but he is also smooth beyond measure. He blatently says things that any normal man in his situation would only think of. I cannot think of anything unnatural about this show that was not done intentionally for an effect. It’s simply awesome, if you haven’t checked it out I would highly reccommend it.

Last night I watched the movie that everyone in the world, especially the girls, seem to be talking about right now.

“Twilight”(Torrent)

And I thought that it was ok. There were definitely some things that I hated. The story just had certain elements, it’s hard to put a handle on which ones, that just seemed to come across as entirely too cheesy at times. The dialogue was definitely the main offender here. The acting seems to be a close second, and the two combined take away almost all of the credibility of the characters. I don’t know if this is something that is present in the books that this movie is based on or not, but since I plan to read them I can only hope not. It just seems very fake, or stereotypical, like it was written about high school kids by someone who is not at all familiar with the way that high school kids talk, which may be entirely true. The other biggest gripe that I have with it is the insane and stupid ways that they have changed the traditional vampire mythos. *SPOILER ALERT* I just have to mention this, the reason vampires done go into full sunlight in this movie is that when they do their skin will shimmer like diamonds. They won’t catch fire, or melt, or die a horrible death, no, they just start to look very shimmery. I’m sorry and I know that some people love trying to inject new things into traditional stories to keep them fresh, but this just goes too far in my opinion, not to be blunt, but it’s just stupid.*SPOILERS OVER* So taking all those things into account and just accepting or forgetting about them, the actual meat of the story and characters is actually pretty good. I was left interested for the whole movie, which only seemed a bit long, so I can’t really yell about the pacing. Basically it’s not something that I would go out and see if you can help it. Personally I downloaded it and I’m glad that I didn’t have to pay for it.(On a side note this was one of the best CAMs that I’ve seen in a long time, don’t be afraid to check it out) But even if you do, it’s not the end of the world, it’s just not something that I love, or would even say is really good. And although I usually don’t like to talk too much about the cultural ideas that surround a movie, or let them influence my reviews, in this case I’m going to make an exception. I just have to say two things. First, to all the girls who are absolutely in love with the books. They’re not that good, I hate to tell you but for the most part you have been fooled by the sappiest romance story in the world. And secondly to all those who use this book as an excuse to become someone who dresses like a goth or a vampire, you are entirely wrong, it’s not worth ten bucks, so it’s definitely not worth changing your entire image over.
